There is basically no one alive today who has not heard of Orenthal James ( “O.J.”) Simpson. He first conquered fame with his remarkable football abilities but his fame turned quickly to infamy when he was charged in the highly publicized murder of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown, and Ron Goldman. His trial began in 1995 and lasted almost a year but eventually the jury found O.J. Simpson not guilty of both counts of murder.
O.J. Simpson could not stay out of trouble for long. He was convicted in a Las Vegas hotel heist in 2007 and sentenced to up to 33 years in prison. (O.J. was just granted parole having served the minimum of his sentence—9 years—in July.) His tumultuous life may have been exciting for the public to follow but many of us have forgotten about his children. Their lives were irrevocably changed by the murder of Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman—their beloved hero and father, tried as a spectacle in front of the entire world.
While O.J. had his share of the lime light, many have wondered what happened to his children. Well, friends - asked and answered. Here are some details about the children of the notorious O.J. Simpson.
15 O.J. Was Married When He Met Nicole
O.J.’s two youngest children, Sydney and Justin, were the product of his marriage to Nicole Brown. But one little known fact about their parents’ courtship is that O.J. was married when he met Nicole. Brown was working as a waitress when she crossed paths with O.J., and although he was still married to his then-wife, Marguerite, the two began a relationship. They were married in February of 1985.
The famous couple was married for seven years before their split. Nicole Brown filed for divorced in 1992, citing irreconcilable differences, although the duo is rumored to have tried to reconcile in the months before her death. Sydney and Justin were living with Nicole at the time of her murder in Brentwood, California.
14 He Had Three Children With His First Wife
Sydney and Justin were made famous in the murder trial of their father, O.J. Simpson. Pictures of them sitting in the court room were spread across magazine covers and the paparazzi stalked them from noon until night.
But many people don’t know that O.J. has three other children; two alive and one that has passed. His daughter, Aaren, tragically drowned in a swimming pool accident in 1979. Her mother, Marguerite, however, has two other children with O.J.—Arnelle and Jason Simpson.
Their faces were photographed during O.J.’s many public escapades, but the media focused mainly on Justin and Sydney, since it was their mother’s murder that captivated the world. Maybe it served them better to be left alone, in the long run. Too much attention for the wrong reasons can be damaging to a child.
13 Khloe Kardashian Is Rumored To Be His Daughter
Khloe Kardashian has cracked jokes about not being fully related to her sisters. In numerous episodes of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, Khloe asks her mother who her real father is. She was teasing, of course.
Cue the rumor mill. Kris Kardashian, the matriarch of the family, was close with both Nicole and O.J. The fact that Khloe has a “different” look than that of her sisters and given that her family had such close ties with the Simpsons, tabloids jumped at the idea that perhaps The Juice could be her father.
According to In Touch Weekly, in 2013, “Rob Sr.’s wife came forward and claimed that before his death in 2003, he confided in her that Khloé was not his biological daughter.”
12 Nicole's Two Kids Were Asleep At The Murder Scene
It has been years since the deaths of Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman, so many people have trouble remembering the exact details of the murders. But one important fact, which is left out a lot, is that Nicole and O.J.’s two children (Sydney and Justin) were asleep at the house where the crime was committed.
Can you imagine? The two kids were sleeping in the upstairs room when both adults were stabbed, multiple times, leading up to the house. Nicole had defensive wounds on her hands, showing evidence that she did not go down without a fight.
We nonchalantly throw around these children’s mother’s murder like it is some horror movie we enjoyed viewing, but for them they were actually in it.
Even today people talk about Nicole’s murder, especially, speculating if it really was O.J. who did it.
11 Sydney And Justin Don't Speak Of Their Mother's Death
Rumor has it that Justin and Sydney don’t speak about their mother’s murder and that is definitely true--publically, at least. The two have remained hidden from the spotlight and who can blame them? Just imagine what it would have been like for them to have their mother murdered and their father accused of the crime. Whether or not they believe he did it is immaterial to the trauma their mother’s homicide has caused them.
If they believe that their father committed the crime then they have to live with seeing him acquitted. If they think that someone else murdered their mother, then they have to live with the fact that the person(s) has never been caught. Either way, why would they have any interest in speaking to the world at large about it?
10 They Were Sent To Live With Nicole's Parents
Following the murder of their mother, Justin and Sydney Simpson were sent to live their maternal grandparents. They were taken in by Nicole’s parents who hoped to provide a home with stability for the children.
However, California is known for their intense, favorable leanings towards a child’s biological parents in a custody case. Even so, the public was shocked when O.J. Simpson eventually won custody of his two young children. Public opinion of him quickly turned negative between the spousal abuse charges and his possible involvement in the death of Nicole Brown.
The Judge on the custody case felt that there was no evidence to suggest that Simpson had ever harmed his children, or would harm them in future, so she placed them back within his care.
9 O.J. Did Go To Jail - But Not For Murder
For those who cannot keep up with the chronic alleged wrongdoings of O.J. Simpson, it may come as a surprise that the father of four DID get sent to jail…just not for murder. And the details are sordid to say the least.
In 2007, Simpson supposedly led a group of armed men to break into a Las Vegas hotel room that belonged to Bruce Fromong, who dealt in sports memorabilia. Fromong claims that the men held him at gunpoint while they stole collector’s items from his room.
In a strange, what some refer to as “karmic”, occurrence Simpson was found guilty of all charges surrounding the robbery EXACTLY 13 YEARS TO THE DAY that he had been acquitted of murder.
8 Arnelle Testified On Her Father's Behalf
Arnelle, O.J.’s eldest child, is still supposedly close with her father. She was the most visible of any of his kids during his trial, and is still apparently sticking by him. A longtime friend of the family, Tom Scotto, says that despite the fact that none of his kids were at his last parole hearing, Arnelle still talks to O.J. regularly. For those of us who cannot remember the murder trial with perfect clarity, it was Arnelle that took the stand in her father’s defense, reading a letter on the behalf of all of the Simpson children, which urged the court to allow him to go free. Some have argued that it was her words that impassioned his verdict of not guilty.
7 Rumors Circulated About Jason Simpson
Jason is the second eldest of the Simpson children, full sibling to Arnelle and son of Marguerite. He had little to do with either of his father’s trials and has largely kept himself out of the public eye. There were rumors that maybe Jason was involved in the deaths of Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman, although nothing concrete was ever found. He, understandably, has been trying to lead a “normal” life away from the stigma of being one of O.J. Simpson’s children. Jason is apparently living in Florida and working as a Chef. But another source claims that he is living with his aunt in Atlanta, Georgia. Either way, it is safe to assume that Jason is lying low. And who can blame him?
6 Sydney Stays Out Of The Spotlight
Sydney Simpson is apparently living in St. Petersburg, Florida. She was eight-years-old at the time of her mother’s murder and her life was forever changed on the night of June 12th, 1994. Trying to live a “normal” life after such a traumatic incident would be a struggle for anyone. She seems, as to be the case with most of O.J.’s children, to have tried to keep herself out of the spotlight. According to the New York Post, Sydney is dating Robert Blackman, a candidate for City Council in St. Petersburg. He has been quoted as saying, “The entire Simpson family are great people. They’ve been great friends to me.”…which is more than Sydney has said publically in the last ten years.
5 Justin Works As A Real Estate Agent
Justin, the youngest of the Simpson children, is a real estate agent operating out of Florida. His life seems the most normal of all of the children, which may be due to his age at the time of the murders. Maybe he was just young enough to not let the weight of that burden settle on his shoulders.
His Coldwell Banker profile states, "Justin has seen a diverse spectrum of markets from Los Angeles to Chicago, Miami and Atlanta. Having spent years in multi-family renovation and income properties, Justin has turned his focus to helping others succeed as he has . . . Having a family immersed in hospitality, Justin sets himself apart by dominating customer service and his communication/negotiation skills give his clients the competitive edge.''
4 The Two Went On A Real Estate Spree
According to sources, O.J. Simpson’s two youngest children are buying up real estate all over their now-home of St. Petersburg, Florida. They have apparently bought multiple dwellings—as many as 13—in low income areas.
As if these kids have not seen enough, the potential downfalls from their purchases is that they have drawn unwanted attention to their cash spending; the reason being that O.J. still owes over $30 million to Ron Goldman’s family, who won a civil suit against him in 1997. If that money can be in any way tied to O.J., the Goldman family could go after it.
Everyone has suffered a terrible loss with the deaths of Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman. Going after her children seems very, very low.
3 O.J. Has A Fifth Child - Who Died Tragically
Aaren, O.J's fifth child, apparently toppled into a swimming pool and then fell into a coma as a result of the accident. She died just shy of her second birthday in August of 1979. Accidental drowning, unfortunately, are still a fairly common occurrence today. Toddlers, especially, can be gone in the blink of an eye, a lesson that the Simpson family is all too familiar with. There is little known about Aaren Simpson since her life tragically ended at the tender age of two. What we do know is that she was the daughter of O.J. and his then-wife Marguerite. She was born on September 24, 1977 and was the third child for The Juice. She is full siblings with Arnelle and Jason, half-siblings to Justin and Sydney.
2 Arnelle Has Power Of Attorney For O.J.
Since Arnelle Simpson is the oldest of the children and the most visibly supportive of her father, it comes as no surprise that she was granted Power of Attorney for O.J. since his incarceration. Allegedly though, O.J. is not happy about his daughter having access to his pension.
At reportedly $25,000 per month, O.J.’s NFL pension is one of his main sources of income. Having Power of Attorney, Arnelle has access to those funds and rumor has it she has been spending it as she likes.
But in an interview, Arnelle had a different take. She is quoted as saying, “The home is gone! All the money went to attorneys anyway. There was no point to keep it. It went for for closure. It’s gone."
1 Justin And Sydney Are Still Close
While it is rare to see a photo of any of the Simpson children, there have been sightings of Justin and Sydney together. It makes sense—who else to better understand your life than your sibling who has been through the exact same trauma? Although both Arnelle and Jason dealt with all of O.J.’s public run-ins with the law, it was not their mother who was murdered. Furthermore, they were significantly older at the time of the crime and maybe more emotionally capable of handling the situation.
Sydney and Justin were both very young at the time of Nicole’s death, and they remained together even when their custodial guardians changed. One can easily see how a bond, perhaps even deeper than that of normal brother-sister, was formed.
