White Label Dating

Sep 4, 2011 bySandip

The online dating industry is worth billions of dollars and many people, including myself once upon a time, wanted or are trying to get a slice of it.

The factor that stopped me making a real attempt at penetrating this market is because the industry is extremely competitive and if you’re trying to build your dating community from scratch, it’s a difficult task – there are easier money making opportunities out there.

White Label Dating (whitelabeldating.com) is a company that has been set up to help entrepreneurs get a piece of the dating market. Once you’ve signed up with them for free, they provide you with the dating software, membership database, payment processing, customer support, hosting infrastructure, tax processing and more – all to help you launch your dating site. All you need to do is get a domain name and market your site. Your income then works on a 50/50 revenue share basis for the members you bring in.

The homepage has testimonials from webmasters that earn several thousands of pounds a month – and one that earns £50k a month with his dating site. Pretty incredible, huh?

“Sign Me Up Goddammit!!”

Steady on! It all sounds great but unfortunatley my research found that it’s not all that it’s made out to be for both webmasters and customers.

Why it’s not so lovely jubbly:

  • The platform allows you to target a select number of typical niches. Not having absolute freedom on this front and not being able to tailor every aspect of your site to your niche is a limitation.

  • A number of previous partners that I contacted said the only support they got were continually prompts to spend money on Google AdWords campaigns. Not a bad deal for White Label Dating (WLD) as their getting their advertising paid for. Not so great for the webmaster who pays the massive per click bills when they should be working to get organic traffic and on building real connections with influencers in their niche.

  • The most disturbing factor that sent the credibility of WLD into the gutter is their management of members. If you’re a webmaster that manages to attract a few members to your site, the chances are they wont stick around for long. Many verified previous customers of the White Label Dating / Global Personals Brand state that almost all user profiles are fake. Some even had their identity stolen and then used on other partner sites. Furthermore, if you join a niche site; say ‘Gay, long-haired hippies’ for example, your profile may also appear on another site in their network which may be  ‘Catholics united’. This destroys the niche factor and from my perspective, will lose you members that you’ve probably worked hard to get. That’s the reason for their inclusion of this in their terms and conditions on each site:

The Service is offered through and accessible through a number of other websites in addition to the Site. By registering with the Site you acknowledge and accept that all Content that you post to the site may be searchable and available to users of the Service who access it via different web sites from the Site. You further acknowledge and accept that other members of the Service that you may view and communicate with via the Service may have registered with and accessed the Service through a number of different web sites.

  • Another common complaint has been strange messaging patters. Picture this scenario: you’re a 40 year old guy dying to find a hot lady. Everyone on the dating site ignores you but then suddenly, a day before your subscription is due to expire you get an email from an awesome looking lady. But wait, you can’t reply unless you renew your subscription! You promptly renew thinking ‘damn, I’m in there’. You reply and then eagerly wait to hear back…..but……you…..simply…….get…..blanked – that’s until you subscription is due to expire again! This is exactly what seems to have been happening to all too many people.

“But I Wanted A Dating Site That Makes £10k A Month” :’-(

Some big name companies appear to have had success with WLD. I guess they liked the fully managed offering that WLD provide as opposed to employing an extra person to look after it all. If you already have a relevant community and really cant be arsed to manage a dating site, then WLD is an option and could bring in a decent income. But in my opinion, it’s something that will likely damage some of the relationships with your community due to the aforementioned points.

If you don’t have a community to market to, then WLD does help to create what looks like a busy site. That can bring in a quick buck if you attack a relatively uncompetitive niche but bearing in mind that most of your customers will end up unhappy, it just seems wrong. I also don’t see it as a sustainable way to make money online.

An alternative to WLD is to buy an awesome dating script and then manage that or have someone manage it for you. A robust script that seems to be the market leader at the moment is PG Dating Pro. However, I haven’t examined every option out there so it’s worth shopping around. As you’ll control 100% of your site, you’ll keep 100% of the revenue and can change anything you like. I like the sound of that. You’ll need to put in the work building a solid base of members but at least you’ll know that every member is a quality member that adds value.

The Verdict:

The software used by WLD is robust and their package on offer does get the greed juices flowing. However, due mainly to their management of members this service doesn’t pass the legitimacy test:
